How to compress an image
- Choose one or more images, drop them on the box above, or paste a screenshot.
- Move the quality slider. 60 to 80% usually looks identical to the original at a fraction of the size.
- Download each image, or download them all at once as a ZIP file.
Compression starts as soon as you add images and updates live when you change a setting, so you can see the new file size before you download.
Tips for the smallest files
- Lower the resolution. Photos from phones are often 4000 pixels wide. Setting a max width of 1920 px can cut the size by 70% or more and still looks sharp on any screen.
- Use WebP for websites. It is usually 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and works in all modern browsers.
- PNG screenshots with lots of photo content shrink a lot when saved as JPG or WebP. Images with transparency are kept transparent by saving them as WebP.
Frequently asked questions
How much can I compress an image?
Typical photos shrink by 50 to 80% at a quality setting of 70% with no visible difference. Reducing the max width shrinks them even more.
Will compressing reduce image quality?
Lossy compression removes detail the eye barely notices. At 70 to 80% quality the difference is very hard to see. If an image cannot be made smaller, the tool tells you and keeps the original.
Can I compress PNG files?
Yes. Automatic mode saves photo-like PNGs as JPG and PNGs with transparency as WebP, which are both much smaller than PNG.
Is there a file size or count limit?
No. Because everything runs on your device, the only limit is your device memory.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your images are processed in your browser and never sent to any server.
