How this online flashlight works?

This site acts as an onscreen virtual strobe or flashlight by cycling through pure white and black screens.
You can also make this pure white or black with no screen text by going to our fullscreen option.

Press Turn Light ON and the whole page becomes your light. Choose a mode, set the color, brightness and speed, then tap Full Screen to use every pixel. While the light is on, the page keeps your screen from going to sleep.

Screen light or phone LED flash?

Screen light works on every phone, tablet and computer with no permission needed. It gives soft, even light that is great for reading, finding things in a bag, video calls and colored light.

LED flash (the camera flashlight) is much brighter and better for walking in the dark. On most Android phones in Chrome, tick Also use my phone's LED flash. Steady modes keep the LED on, and Strobe, Beacon, SOS, Morse and Police make it blink in sync. The camera is only used for its light. Nothing is shown, recorded or uploaded, and it is released when you turn the light off. iPhone and iPad do not allow websites to use the flash, so they use the screen light.

Why the color of the light matters

  • White is the brightest and best for searching and reading.
  • Warm white or amber is easier on the eyes in the evening and better before sleep.
  • Red keeps your night vision for stargazing, camping and night feeds.
  • Blue and other colors are great for mood lighting, photos and parties.

When a screen flashlight comes in handy

  • Power outages and finding the fuse box
  • Reading a menu or ticket in a dark room
  • Looking for keys, cables or something under the car seat
  • Camping, when you want a soft tent light
  • Signaling for help with SOS, or getting attention with a strobe or beacon
  • Parties, Halloween, photos and video calls

Photosensitivity warning

Strobe, police, rave, disco, lightning and sound-reactive modes flash quickly. Flashing light can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. We ask you to confirm before any flashing mode starts. Never point flashing light at drivers, pilots or animals.

Battery, heat and safety tips

Full-brightness screens and LED flashes use more battery and can get warm. Use the auto-off timer (1 to 60 minutes) and the brightness slider to make your battery last. In full screen you can lock the controls so pocket taps do not turn the light off; press and hold the unlock button to release.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn my screen into a flashlight?

Press Turn Light ON. The whole page lights up white. Tap Full Screen to hide everything else, and turn your device brightness up to 100%.

Can this website turn on my phone's real flashlight (LED)?

Yes on most Android phones in Chrome: tick "Also use my phone's LED flash" and allow camera access. The camera is only used for its light and nothing is shown or recorded. Apple does not let websites control the iPhone or iPad flash, so on those devices the screen light is used.

Does the online flashlight work on laptops and computers?

Yes. Any device with a screen and a web browser works: Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Will my screen turn off while the light is on?

No. We use the Screen Wake Lock feature to keep the display awake while the light is on, on browsers that support it. Use the auto-off timer to save battery.

How do I send SOS with the flashlight?

Choose the SOS Signal mode. Your screen (and LED on Android) flashes ··· ––– ··· on repeat. You can also add a beep. For any other message use the Morse Code mode.

Is the online flashlight free?

Yes, every light mode, screen and prank on FreeFlashlight.org is free with no app to install and no sign-up.

Does it drain the battery?

A full-brightness screen uses more power than usual, and the LED flash uses even more. Lower the brightness slider or set the auto-off timer if you need the light for a long time.

Flashing light warning

This mode flashes quickly. Flashing lights can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Do not use it if you or anyone nearby may be sensitive, and never point it at drivers or pilots.
